We have broken ground

This section will be highlighting events that are relative to the Mountain Post Historical Center Progress.

Who will tell their stories?

From 1942 to the present, the Fort Carson story is a compelling chronicle of 10 divisions. It has been the training ground of thousands of soldiers developing combat armor and infantry skills as well as special operations and logistics proficiencies. The rich fabric of their history is unraveling and fading fast.

The "greatest generation" - Americans who endured the Depression, fought World War II here and abroad and painstakingly built the prosperity that followed - are fading away. Their ranks are thinning out – at the rate of 1,000 or more a day according to many accounts.

A board member of the Mountain Post Historical Center Association relates the following:

“I recently attended a World War II dinner for my father’s company and only 7 of the original 150 members remain. They wonder: how they will be remembered? Will they disappear into the dustbin of history until someone discovers an old diary or letter?”
